What is a Snake Diet?

Posted by Shopify API on

The Snake Diet promotes a lifestyle centered around prolonged fasting. It was founded on the belief that humans historically endured periods of famine and argues that the human body can sustain itself on just one meal a few times a week. The diet involves an initial fast of 48 hours — or as long as possible. After this period, there is a feeding window of 1–2 hours before the next fast begins.

Cole Robinson, a fasting coach, claims that once you reach your goal weight, you can keep cycling in and out of fasts, surviving on one meal every 24–48 hours. The aim of this diet is to get you into a metabolic state of ketosis where the body uses fat instead of glucose as its main source of energy.

This diet also involves a recipe created by Robinson known as a snake juice. The snake juice consists of water, sea salt, potassium chloride, baking soda, and sulfate salts. It is intended to replenish your electrolytes.

Throughout the diet, you are encouraged to monitor ketones through a ketosis test strip or dipsticks. These are helpful not only on self-monitoring of your ketone levels throughout your diet but can detect disorders such as UTI, kidney and liver diseases as well as diabetes. You can then compare the color results of your urine test strips to the 10-parameter urine test strips chart (though we recommend to see a health professional as well especially on the disorders).

So if you are one of those who want to lose weight fast, then you might just be tempted to try this kind of diet. However, keep in mind that there are a lot of arguments regarding snake diet as not healthy. For one, our digestive systems are not like those of snakes. Also, a day’s worth of snake juice contains nearly double the amount of sodium you need in a day (4000 mg). But, despite warnings against snake diet, there are still some who tried and claimed that this is effective. So, if you decide to try, keep in handy your snake juice, urine testing dipsticks for your ketone levels and of course, your meal since you only get to have it a few times a week. ☺

Conclusion:

Diet trends always come and go and you can always try any of those as long as you understand what is harmful to you. The bottom line is always you. Self-care is a must in all kinds of diet not just physically but more importantly, your mental and emotional as well. Choose a diet style that suits you best and that you could endure and sustain in the long-run. Be self-aware if you are going too extreme on your diet that it harms your health. Remember that a diet is performed not only to look good physically but to keep you healthy as well. Do things that makes you happy and healthy at the same time. A self-care plan or a checklist could come in handy so you can always be conscious of your actions especially when going too extreme on a diet. You could get yourself a self-care gift for every achievement.
