What Food Should We Eat for a Normal pH Level?
Today we will discuss the importance of body pH and how we can lead a healthy life by eliminating excess acid.
The acid-alkali balance of the body plays a significant role in maintaining its dynamic equilibrium. Numerous studies have confirmed the fact that an acidic body pH restricts the proper functioning of the enzymes, leading to conditions such as osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer.
In case of individuals with a chronically acidic body pH, the body tries its best to neutralize the pH by utilizing many of its necessary minerals. As an instance, calcium is pulled out of the bones, causing osteoporosis and difficulty in bone formation. Similarly, the loss of potassium and magnesium from the body can cause high blood pressure. A highly acidic body may also suffer from muscle mass breakdown and disturbance in the process of cell repairing.
Unfortunately, the standard American diet is highly acidic, and contains loads of processed foods, meats, sugars, grains, dairy, alcohol, and coffee. Though it is important to maintain a slightly alkaline pH, consumption of too much alkaline food may lead to a state of alkalosis. Please remember that the best approach is to balance out the diet with both sides of the spectrum, with an attention to the consumption of more alkaline foods compared to acidic.
The list below will help you choose or avoid certain types of food and maintain a normal pH level.
High Acidity: Vinegar, carbonated water, soda, energy drinks
Moderate Acidity: coffee, milk, beef, chocolate, alcohol, wheat, pork, pasta, bread, etc.
Mild Acidity: fish, fruit juice, oats, beans, egg, salmon, soy milk, etc.
High Alkalinity: Cabbage, broccoli, spinach, cucumber, cauliflower, carrot, onion, asparagus, etc.
Moderate Alkalinity: Grapes, mango, peas, beet, papaya, kiwi, celery, lettuce, avocado, etc.
Mild Alkalinity: Tomato, olive, apple, mushroom, cherry, banana, etc.
